Montfort School Ranirkhamar, Agartala

History of the School

Montfort School, nestled in the serene locale of Ranir Khamar, West Tripura, is an esteemed Catholic institution under the dedicated stewardship of the ‘Institute of the Brothers of St. Gabriel, Province of North East India,’ affectionately known as the Montfort Brothers of St. Gabriel. Across the tapestry of India, these Brothers gracefully oversee approximately 160 educational institutions, extending their benevolent guidance to 21 states. In the verdant landscape of Northeast India, the Brothers diligently manage 17 educational centres, enriching the lives of students across five states.

In a transformative chapter of our school’s history, the Montfort Brothers, in the year 2004, acquired an expansive 08-acre parcel of land in Ranir Khamar, nestled within the Dukhli Block. This visionary initiative was borne under the sagacious leadership of the then Provincial Superior, the esteemed Rev. Bro. Jose TJ.

To propel this dream into reality, the Provincial Administration appointed the capable Bro. Joy Alex as the project in charge for Dukhli. This project, envisioned as a nurturing hub of education, diligently set about constructing classrooms and orchestrating the essential groundwork, all aimed at initiating classes by January 2010.

In a momentous ceremony that etched itself into our school’s annals, the illustrious Rev. Bro. John Kallarackal, the then Asst. General, graced us with his presence to lay the foundation stone for our new edifice on the 23rd of July, 2009. As the construction unfolded, it was steered with unwavering dedication under the watchful and capable supervision of Rev. Bro. Joy Alex.

The crowning moment of the school’s inception was the blessing and inauguration of its splendid new edifice, an event graced by the esteemed presence of Bishop Lumen Monterio, Bro. BA Kurian, the Provincial Superior, Bro. Martin Joseph, and numerous other distinguished guests. This ceremony, held on January 16, 2010, symbolized the dawn of a new era in education and community service.

On the auspicious date of January 25, 2010, Montfort School began its noble mission of serving humanity under the visionary leadership of Lt. Bro. Joy Alex, the inaugural Principal and Director, with the capable support of Bro. Raj Shaker Reddy as Bursar. This marked a humble yet resolute beginning, with a modest cohort of 22 students, ranging from LKG to Class I, and a trio of dedicated teachers, and a nurturing presence in the form of an ayah.

Thus, our educational odyssey began, and the Montfort legacy, steeped in values and purpose, was born, destined to shape the futures of countless young minds with each passing day.

Guided by its poignant motto, ‘Lead Kindly Light,’ Montfort School has remained steadfast in illuminating the lives and nurturing the personalities of all those fortunate enough to traverse its knowledge-enriched corridors over the past twenty-five years.

Lt. Bro. Joy Alex, with unwavering dedication, initiated an ambitious construction project that included the school building, boundary wall, electrical infrastructure, and water supply systems, setting the foundation for the institution’s future growth and development.

The period from 2011 to 2015 witnessed the dynamic leadership of Bro. Paul VK, who served as the Director and Principal of the school. Over these four transformative years, the school evolved into a comprehensive centre for education under his able guidance.

During his tenure, a new chapter in the school’s history began to take shape marked progress, including the construction of the ground floor of a new building, paving the way for the school’s expansion up to Class VI.

As Montfort School’s journey continues, it remained committed to its mission of providing quality education and fostering the growth and development of the young minds that pass through its doors, with the aspiration of leaving an indelible mark on society.

From the distinguished tenure spanning June 2015 to May 2022, we were fortunate to have Bro. Peter Veda at the helm, serving as the Director and Principal of our beloved school. A significant milestone was achieved during this period as the school earned affiliation with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in 2018, extending its educational prowess to the Secondary level.
